The price of imported smartphones is set to get costlier as the government plans to raise the customs duty to 25% from the existing 10%.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal placed the proposal while presenting his budget speech in the parliament today.
He said: “I propose to increase customs duty of smartphones to 25% while it will remain unchanged for feature phones at 10%.
“I have made the proposal considering the relatively poor people.,” he added.
The finance minister, however, proposed reduction on the duty on mobile phone charger connector pin and SIM slot ejector pin to 10% from 25%.
